Reader Response #6: Find a Poet

Keyshia Cole
I love all of Keyshia Cole's songs (poems). One song i really love written by Keyshia Cole is a song called Heaven Sent. The song represents how she wants her relationships to be. A piece of the song that i really liked was "Now you can wait your whole life wondering when it's gonna come or where it's been. You may have got your heart broken a few times in the past never last as strong as it used to,It don't feel as good as it used to (before) and all the things you used to say, things you used to do, went right out the door ooh no more, will you be the one that's what you tell everyone around you but you know they've heard it all before what more can you say when love won't let you, walk away and you can't help who you love and you find yourself giving it away when you think you're in love ooh cause." This song relates to my life because I know people who have had alot of heart ache just like Keyshia Cole in this song. I like that all of her songs are very true and real and can relate to real life. My personal definition of poetry is an art. Since i would like to write music or poetry I can also say that poetry is oxygen for me because music is my life and without oxygen I can't live. All in all the poet/ song writer/ singer Keyshia Cole has very good, touching, spirited poems.

Friendship

http://www.completealbumlyrics.com/lyric/120969/JoJo+-+Happy+Song.html

This song is basically saying that she has a very close friend and that if they need her then she will be there for them. JoJo said “if things don’t go your way; use my shoulder to lean on”. That shows that she is a very good friend.

I really like this song it has a very good meaning to it and the way she sings sets it off just right. This song relates to my life because I have many friends like that and I treat my friends just like that. I love my friends and this song shows exactly how I treat my friends.

Moral Dilemma in Huck Finn
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck faces a number of moral dilemmas which reveal much about his character. Huck’s character seems like a good character. He has more knowledge and wisdom than most people his age and some older than him. He also has many moral dilemmas that he has to solve.

One moral dilemma that Huck faced was when the slave hunters asked him who was with him. Huck told the slave hunters that the only people with him were his family and that they were all white. This was after Huck said he was going to tell on Jim about being a runaway slave, and before Jim told Huck he was his best friend and the only friend he ever had. This made Huck feel really bad. That’s why he didn’t tell on Jim.

Huck made the right decision. Huck’ decision was the right one because Jim told Huck he was his best friend. Plus in the long run Jim helps out Huck more than he could imagine. Like when the Grangerford’s slaves found Jim, all Jim wanted was for Huck to be safe and he slept outside all those nights just to make sure he was. Also if Huck told on him, Jim would be very disappointed in Huck since he thought they were friends.

Some support that helps Huck’s decision was that in Chapter 18, Page 88, and Paragraph 2, Jim said, “Laws bless you, chile. I’uz right down sho’ you’s dead agin.”
That sentence shows that Jim loves Huck and really cares about him enough to worry about him and to care for him like he is his own child. If Huck would have told on Jim, Huck would be sick on the inside about what he did to his friend.

All in all, Huck has grown since the beginning of the book, especially with wisdom. The moral dilemmas that he faces are for those of higher age, but he takes them as he can and solves his problems the best way that he can. So his decision was a very good one.

Huck Finn Reader Response #3 (Ch.14- Ch.18)

Huck Finn Reader Response #3 (Ch.14- Ch.18)

What impresses Huck about the Grangerford’s house was that the house looked wealthy for a house on a farm. Huck once said, “I hadn’t seen no house out in the country before that was so nice and had so much style.” (Ch.17, Pg.75, Para.4) This says that Huck is happy and he successfully found a family that cared for him and that treated him better than Pap did.

The books in the house were mostly poetry written by Emmeline Grangerford. Huck thought that, “If Emmeline could write poetry like that at the age of fourteen, aint no telling what she could a done by-and-by.”(Ch.17, Pg.78, Para.6) Huck liked to read the books in the house. He thought they were interesting because since Emmeline was so young he thought it was cool for her to have so much wisdom. This says that Huck is very smart for his age that he understands Emmeline’s writings. This also says that Mark Twain was very educated.

What was unique about all the drawings, poems, and the scrapbook was that they were all mostly religious. Emmeline seemed to be obsessed with death. Huck said, “Every time a man died, or a woman died, or a child died, she would be on hand with her tribute before they were cold.” (Ch.17, Pg.78, Para.6) I think the significance of the painting of the girl on the edge of the bridge is to show that she has two choices either to kill herself or stay and live. The other set of arms, I think, was to show her praise to god. I think Twain describes this so specifically to stretch the meaning of the photo. I think he views death as something that just has to happen, and that he is not scared to die. I think he views suicide as not a good thing but still not a bad thing either, that it’s a choice that some people make. Twain has a very good sense of art. I can picture the photo in my mind and the picture just looks absolutely stunning, I think it’s beautiful. Huck is touched by Emmeline’s life and art because to be so young she has a grown up piece of mind and he admires that for her. Even though he hasn’t met her.

Reader Response #2

Reader Response 2: Huck Finn (7 - 13)
DUE: END OF THE HOUR TODAYFor today's response, you are to write 4-6 paragraphs in which you answer the following questions:How is Huck influenced by the following people: Tom Sawyer, Widow Douglas, Pap, and Jim? Who do you think has the most positive influence on Huck? Negative? Why?You must write at least one paragraph about each person and include the quote, chapter, page, and paragraph number for each quote. (CHAPTER, PAGE #, PAR. #)

Reader Response 2: Huck Finn (7 - 13)

Huck has been influenced by many people in many different ways. He has been influenced by Tom Sawyer in some bad ways. Bad ways Huck has been influenced by Tom are. That whatever Tom says Huck just goes along with it. Like when Tom said “Shucks, it ain’t no use talking to you, Huck Finn. You don’t seem to know anything, somehow- perfect snap-head.” (Chap.3, Pg.11, Par. 4) That would make Huck feel like he is stupid the way Tom talks to him

Also Huck is influenced by the Widow Douglas. He is influenced by her in many different ways most of them good. Like how the Widow took him in and treated him like he was her own son. She also gives him good advice, like when she told him that smoking was “a mean practice and wasn’t clean, and you mustn’t do it anymore”. (Chap.1, Pg. 2, Par. 3) Even though Huck doesn’t mind her advice it is still great advice. And he really should start listening.

Another person Huck is influenced by is Pap . Husk is influenced in many bad ways from Pap. In one way Pap told Huck he couldn’t go to school anymore. Pap said “And looky here- you drop that school, ya hear?” (Chap. 5, Pg.15, 2nd Para.) Since Pap was Huck’s father he had to mind his father.

The last person Huck is influenced by is Jim. Jim influences Huck in good ways.
Jim is also a good friend to Huck. Jim once said, “Huck; you’s de bes’ fren’ Jim’s ever had.” This comment made Huck feel really bad because he was about to go tell on Jim for escaping, but that made him change his mind. This comment also taught Huck how to be a better friend to people.

Huck Finn Reader Response 1 (1-6)

Huck Finn Reader Response 1: (1-6)
Parental Relations

My quote came from when pap came home and tried to get Huck’s money and the judge wouldn’t give it to him. “Next day he was drunk, and he went to Judge Thatcher’s and bullyragged him and tried to make him give up the money, but he couldn’t, and then he swore he’d make the law force him.”
(Chapter 5, Page 16, Paragraph 3)

I think what is being said is stupid. Its Huck’s money and pap has no right to try and take it, and the fact that he said that he would get the law to get the judge to give him the money. This relates to my life because I’ve read book about things like this. I really feel that it is wrong for a parent to try and take a child’s money and using it for only themselves and not for the child in the first place. Huck should be able to decide what he wants to do with his money.

I think Mark Twain would say the same thing I do. Pap should not be trying to force the Judge to give him Huck’s money just because he is Huck’s father. This relates to his life because it basically is his life. Mark Twain probably thinks this is wrong but I have no sure source if that’s exactly what he thinks
