Reader Response 2: Huck Finn (7 - 13)
Huck has been influenced by many people in many different ways. He has been influenced by Tom Sawyer in some bad ways. Bad ways Huck has been influenced by Tom are. That whatever Tom says Huck just goes along with it. Like when Tom said “Shucks, it ain’t no use talking to you, Huck Finn. You don’t seem to know anything, somehow- perfect snap-head.” (Chap.3, Pg.11, Par. 4) That would make Huck feel like he is stupid the way Tom talks to him
Also Huck is influenced by the Widow Douglas. He is influenced by her in many different ways most of them good. Like how the Widow took him in and treated him like he was her own son. She also gives him good advice, like when she told him that smoking was “a mean practice and wasn’t clean, and you mustn’t do it anymore”. (Chap.1, Pg. 2, Par. 3) Even though Huck doesn’t mind her advice it is still great advice. And he really should start listening.
Another person Huck is influenced by is Pap . Husk is influenced in many bad ways from Pap. In one way Pap told Huck he couldn’t go to school anymore. Pap said “And looky here- you drop that school, ya hear?” (Chap. 5, Pg.15, 2nd Para.) Since Pap was Huck’s father he had to mind his father.
The last person Huck is influenced by is Jim. Jim influences Huck in good ways.
Jim is also a good friend to Huck. Jim once said, “Huck; you’s de bes’ fren’ Jim’s ever had.” This comment made Huck feel really bad because he was about to go tell on Jim for escaping, but that made him change his mind. This comment also taught Huck how to be a better friend to people.
